Anonymised transcript of a second interview with Jill, age 20, who works full time (original interview not available). Since her first interview, she has broken up with her boyfriend, who had been engaged to another woman for four years. She has had some less serious relationships since the break up, and has used both the pill and condoms as contraception in sexual relationships. She talks about how using a condom was her male partner's idea, rather than her own. Most of Jill's friends have children now and seem to be settled down, but Jill doesn't seem too fussed at the moment - she would like to travel first. She would continue using condoms in future sexual relationships, though she doesn't enjoy using them and would ask her partner to have an STD test instead if she felt the relationship was serious enough. She has an awareness of her own sexual pleasure, but thinks men are typically 'selfish' in this respect. Jill is very aware of AIDS transmission and risk. She doesn't think recent campaign adverts are very effective, as they are not relevant enough to the everyday realities of young people. She notes that her peers have quite an ignorant attitude towards AIDS protection. Her mum has very homophobic attitudes around AIDS, who Jill describes as 'from Victorian time' and 'from another planet'.
