Title
Follow up interview with Amanda, 18 - 19, White British, middle class, Roman Catholic. Women, Risk and AIDS Project, Manchester, 1990. Anonymised version (Ref: MAG192)
Description
Anonymised transcript of a follow up interview with Amanda, who left college prematurely due to poor attendance and relationship troubles at the time. She has had some administrative-type jobs and is planning on spending the summer working in Ibiza. Amanda feels her attitude to risk, especially in terms of safe sex, has changed since her original interview. She is now more aware of the dangers of AIDS and they feel more realistic to her, since discussing it with other people and discovering more about her previous partner's sexual history and needle use. She is still taking the pill as her main form of contraception, but thinks she would use condoms in future sexual relationships, even though she doesn't enjoy using them. In terms of her own sexual pleasure, she has become more aware of it through experimenting and engaging in oral sexual practices with partners, and feels more confident taking on a more dominant role.
