Once Upon a Time memory book
|
Description |
In 2019-2020 the ESRC funded 'Reanimating data: experiments with people, places and archives'. Part of the project involved staging a series of reanimations using data from interviews with young women from Manchester, conducted thirty years previously as part of the Women, Risk and AIDS Project (WRAP 1988-1990). This reanimation involved a collaboration between a community memory group and Ali Ronan (historian/youth worker) and used creative methods to explore the WRAP data and help bring it to life in new ways.
This item includes excerpts from the Once Upon a Time memory book. The book was created using memories of Collyhurst, North Manchester that had been collated by the Once Upon a Time steering group with contributions from local community members. The book includes memories of schooling, war time, religion, entertainment, growing up in poverty, holidays and attitudes toward love and marriage. There are also interactive pages to allow readers to reflect on their own memories. It was published by Manchester Communication Academy and designed by Sophia Huddlestone. The Once Upon a Time (OUAT) project began with the union of two groups: the Manchester Communication Academy and the Irk Valley Tenants and Residents group both based in Collyhurst.
