Documentation of initial Reanimating Data Project workshops with the Women's Theatre Society
|
Description |
In 2019-2020 the ESRC funded 'Reanimating data: experiments with people, places and archives'. Part of the project involved staging a series of reanimations using data from interviews with young women from Manchester, conducted thirty years previously as part of the Women, Risk and AIDS Project (WRAP 1988-1990). Each reanimation involved a collaboration between young women, educators and researchers and used creative methods to explore the WRAP data and bring it to life in new ways.
This item contains documentation of the first five weeks of workshops run by the Women's Theatre Society using data from three interviews in the WRAP archive. The society ran 5 weeks of workshops (two a week, 3 hours long) to explore the interviews and enable participants to respond to the material and related themes. The workshops were mainly student run, with some invited faciltators. Zip files contains a PDF of each workshop that contains images, outline plans and written reflections where available. The following documents are available: Week 1: An overview of the initial introductory workshop and a detailed plan of a second workshop on sex and relationship communication that used continuum activities, extracts from the WRAP interviews and other activities to spark debate and as material to devise short scenes. Week 2: An overview of a creative writing workshop and another of a multi-media workshop. Week 3: Detailed plan for a consent and self-image workshop which includes games, an agree/disagree continuum and several writing tasks using the WRAP data extracts. File includes examples of the materials created by the group during the workshop. The second file contains a detailed plan for a Creative movement workshop focussed on consent and trust. Week 4: Detailed plan for a song-writing workshop which includes singing, song-writing and free-write exercises and the use of WRAP data as prompts. The file includes examples of material created by the group during the workshop. No materials are available for the second workshop held this week. Week 5: Outline plan for the 'What did you do in the 80's?' workshop which used material from the archive, music and performance techniques to explore some of the WRAP interviews and the historical period within which they were produced. There is a video recording of this session available. Also available are detailed reflections on a second workshop that used questions from the WRAP interviews as the basis for new interviews, discussions and short scenes. The file contains photos from the workshop as well as videos of the 7 short scenes that were performed in the workshop, some of which were included in the final 'Reanimating Project' performance. Overview and reflections: This file contains images of reflections by group participants on workshops from weeks 1-5.
Files can be accessed on the University of Sussex research repository, Figshre.
