Title

Ampersand: A Letterpress Woodblock

Description

This letterpress woodblock has been sitting on my desk to remind me of the importance of looking behind the formal outputs of creative endeavours, to see the harder to evidence labour, material processes and generative acts – particularly those usually unseen because they don’t fit into expected structures or modes of value.

I like that this woodblock is the size of the palm of my hand and is clearly a three dimensional object with relief, woodgrain, etc. The ampersand also reads in reverse until it is used – and removed - to create a typographic impression and output on paper.
